At Friday nights presentation evening, Newport RFC legend David ‘Muddy’ Waters was presented with a unique ‘700’ cap to recognise his outstanding achievements and commitments to the club.
In a remarkable career spreading over 22 seasons Muddy played an incredible 702 matches in Black & Amber. This is over 160 more than any other player. A truly outstanding effort from one of our clubs biggest stars.
President Brian ‘BJ’ Jones awarded the cap in front of a standing ovation from a room full of guests and supporters at Rodney Parade.

As well as his 702 games for the 1st XV, Muddy also played many games for Newport United, was capped four times by Wales, turned out regularly for Crawshay’s and The Barbarians and had two seasons with Merthyr when he finished at Rodney Parade. An incredible feat that will never be surpassed.
