A pre-season friendly game away to Guernsey Raiders was an ideal opportunity for the new players to get to know the squad on and off the pitch. Newport took thirty players and they all had game time.
The Black and Ambers started the game well and kept the ball as they moved through the phases. Half backs, Carwyn Penny and Dafydd Buckland, controlled the game and were able to put their outside backs into space with the pack winning good ball and driving into the opposition.
The Raiders were also putting some good moves together and showed that they were up for this game.
The scores were close at half time but Newport finished the stronger outfit and gradually pulled away to make the final score Raiders 19 – 42 Newport
