Friends of Newport Rugby and Newport RFC are delighted to announce that a celebration anniversary dinner will be held in November to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Newport’s victory against South Africa in 1969 and also the Anglo-Welsh championship success of 1968/69. This period in the club history was a golden era with the pinnacle being the victory over the touring Springboks at Rodney Parade on 12th November 1969.
The dinner will be held at Rougemont School, Newport’s training base, on Malpas Road in Newport on Friday 29th November. The venue is the Frank Edwards building, a multi-million pound expansion of the school facilities that was recently opened. Tickets are £40 each and can be bought individually or in tables of eight.
The evening will be hosted by former Newport outside half Keith James with contributions from the players who were involved including a special guest from the South African team. Highlights of the Springboks game will also be shown.
