It is difficult to quite believe it has been a year since we last had the pleasure to don the famous black and amber jersey in our victory against Pontypridd at Sardis Road. We have been unable to train or meet as a group for a very long time, although due to technology we have been able to meet virtually with the squad for quizzes and challenges thanks to our team manager ‘Worky’.
It would be wrong to not reflect on the fact that when we are able to meet again some familiar faces will not be with us. Sadly, during this period, we have lost many former players and supporters, they will not be forgotten, and we will ensure that we mark their memory and contribution to Newport RFC at the next home game, whenever that may be.
We are hopeful with the rate of infection reducing and the vaccine rollout being done at speed that we will see some rugby in 2021. The players are all chomping at the bit to get back on the field and continue where we left off.
When we can play again the need for sponsors will become more and more important. We are currently looking for a volunteer to support our commercial director with gaining more partners to support Newport RFC. We cannot wait to be back playing in front of our loyal supporters. The most important thing is that we all continue to remain safe and well so that we can enjoy supporting Newport RFC when we are able too.
