Newport head West to face a Llanelli team still looking for their first win. The Parc y Scarlets outfit have certainly suffered with all the available regional academy players selected to play in the under-23 side leaving them short and having to blood players perhaps earlier than they would like. But they are resilient and were holding their own last time out until half-time against a strong Llandovery team before conceding tries and failing to get a score. They will test the Black & Ambers and it would be a mistake to take anything for granted.
The Newport coaching team were not happy after the Bedwas game with so many knock-ons and some bad decisions costing tries and a bonus point. They have had lots to work on in training and the squad has been studying the videos to eliminate the errors. It seems hard to be critical after a win but the players have set high standards themselves in this critical season and they are determined to play to their potential.
Several players picked up injuries last Sunday and the Physio’s room has seen a queue as they wait for treatment. The plus side is that other players are recovering from injury and hopefully there will be competition in all positions. This season a strong squad is so important.
Once again the coaching team has had some tough decisions to make when selecting the team and the replacements with good players having to be left out of the twentythree.
