2017/2018 Principality Premiership
Newport 48 v 36 Neath
25 March 2018 - Rodney Parade, Newport

Match Preview

Newport take on Neath on Sunday fresh from a thrilling victory over Bedwas.  This National Cup quarter-final win saw the Black and Ambers play some of the best attacking rugby we have seen for a few seasons.  Unfortunately there was a price to pay with a few more injuries picked up.

Neath are on a bad run at the moment but could be turning their season around after just losing to Pontypridd last time out.  With a couple of shrewd off-field signings combined with the dedication and experience of long-serving secretary, Mike Price, we can be sure that they will soon be back competing at the top end of the table.  We just hope that the come-back doesn’t start on Sunday.

The Newport team will be selected after Friday’s fitness tests.

With several players picking up bumps and bruises and with one eye on a very busy fixture list the coaching team has made several changes.

Newport: Nicky Boyce, Henry Palmer, Tom Piper, Andrew Mann, Joe Bartlett, Morgan Burgess, Josh Reid, Alex Everett, Owen Davies, Matt O'Brien, Elliot Frewen, Adam Sabri, Chay Smith, Jon Morris, Haydn Simons.

Replacements: Will Evans, John Lavender, Garin Harris, James Little, Max George, Ryan Bates, Harri Lang, Geraint O'Driscoll.

Referee:  Gwyn Morris

AR1:  Carwyn Williams

AR2:  Mark Butcher

Kick-off:  2:30 PM

There will be a minute’s silence before the game in honour of Campbell Black who served Newport RFC as committee member and secretary.
