Bridgend Ravens
2017/2018 Principality Premiership
Bridgend 16 v 12 Newport
16 March 2018 - Morganstone Brewery Field, Bridgend

Match Preview

The Newport players will have a spring in their step in training this week following a tremendous victory over Merthyr last Saturday. After beating the league leaders, we now travel to the Morganstone Brewery Field to face Bridgend who are currently at the wrong end of the league table.  Although they are struggling to get a win they are playing some excellent rugby and were desperately unlucky to lose by a point at Sardis Road.  After securing a try bonus point before half time they went down to a last-minute penalty as Pontypridd just managed to secure a 38 – 37 win.  Newport can’t take them lightly as they will be keen to get that win in front of their supporters.

The Newport coaches have some tough decisions to make if all the players are fit for selection as following this game they play Bedwas in the WRU National Cup on Tuesday.  We then have a run of games and need to squeeze in a couple of midweek matches too.  The strength of the squad will be tested over the next month.

Bridgend – Newport games are usually high scoring encounters, so this game could be a thriller.

Squad will be selected after fitness checks and training on Thursday.

Only three changes to the starting fifteen with Will Evans coming in at hooker, Ryan James taking the nine spot and Chay Smith filling the outside centre position.

Newport: John Lavender, Will Evans, Garin Harris, Joe Bartlett, Dan Partridge, Morgan Burgess, Kyle Tayler, Alex Everett, Ryan James, Matt O'Brien, Elliot Frewen, Tom Pascoe, Chay Smith, Jon Morris, Geraint O'Driscoll.

Replacements: Henry Palmer, Matt Prosser, Tom Piper, Andrew Mann, Rhys Cresswell, Ryan Bates, Haydn Simons, Haydn Palmer.
