Our season so far could probably be summed up with one word – inconsistent! We have played some exhilarating rugby and scored some sublime tries but we have been guilty of losing games that we should have won. Often caused by bad decision making and failing to stick to the game plan. One bright aspect of this season is the way some of our young players have developed and we are looking forward to this continuing as we start the second phase. We start with 4 points and the leaders have 8 so with 5 points available for each game this is the real business end of the season.
We couldn’t have a more appropriate opponent than those Blue and Blacks from the other end of Cardiff Road and they will be travelling with confidence after already securing the double over us. Could they get the treble? And if we get drawn against each other in the Cup, could it be that almost mythical four wins in a season? Some of those old Cardiff legends will be licking their lips at the thought of it. They are certainly going well at the moment and took part in a thrilling televised game at Sardis Road last Saturday where they lost by just 2 points.
The Newport squad are keen to put things right after a poor performance last time out. Will the coaching team make wholesale changes? Will they give the same players the opportunity to put things right? You can be sure that everyone will be working hard in training.
It looks like we could have some bad weather between now and Saturday, but we are confident that the game will be “ON”.
