Match Preview

BEDWAS vs. NEWPORT

Newport travel to the Bridge Field to face a Bedwas side still celebrating an historic win against Pontypridd. This superb five try victory was their first at Sardis Road and a great start for new head coach, Ian Gardner. They have certainly put a marker down in the Premier Division and will be looking to improve on last year’s league position when they finished third in Tier 1.

The Black & Ambers will be trying to get their campaign back on track after suffering a home defeat at the hands of Cardiff.  Coaches and players have been studying the videos and will know that they must reduce the errors and improve the defence.  Every game will now be tough as the East-West split will mean difficult games every week.

Newport are boosted by the return of John Lavender, Ryan James and Geraint O’Driscoll, with O’Driscoll going straight in at full-back.  Lennon Greggains is back from his very successful tour with Wales Under19s and is selected in the back row.

Newport: Matt Prosser, Will Evans, Garin Harris, James Little, Joe Bartlett, Rhys Jenkins, Alex Everett, Lennon Greggains, Owen Davies, Matt O’Brien, Wes Cunliffe, Tom Pascoe, Jon Morris, Harri Lang, Geraint O’Driscoll.

Replacements: Henry Palmer, John Lavender, Tom Piper, Morgan Burgess, Kyle Tayler, Ryan James, Hayden Simons, Adam Sabri.

AR2: Steffan Edwards
