2016/2017 Principality Premiership
Newport 17 v 8 Cardiff
25 February 2017 - Rodney Parade, Newport

Match Preview

With all the changes we’ve seen in Welsh rugby recently it’s good to see that some things remain the same – Newport against Cardiff is still a big game for supporters of both teams.  Regardless of what’s happening in the rugby world this is the one that both teams want to win.  This is the one that players don’t want to miss.  The Black and Ambers will be looking to get straight back into the form that they showed in the last twenty minutes against Pontypridd when a brilliant fight-back almost brought victory.  They showed that they can play a high tempo game using forwards and backs.  They will also be hoping that key players will be fit for Saturday’s game.  Cardiff will be smarting after losing to Pontypool in the National Cup and will be keen to start climbing up the league table.

Players, officials and supporters will be looking forward to the famous Black and Ambers facing the famous Blue and Blacks.  Welcome, Cardiff, our oldest rivals, our oldest friends.

Newport Squad will be selected after Thursday training.  Squad announcement delayed for late fitness checks.
