The Black & Ambers play the first game of the ‘second stage’ Premier Division fixtures on Saturday and make the trip to the ‘Bridgend Ford Brewery Field’. Bridgend are a difficult team to preview having got a good victory at Rodney Parade during a winning run of five games but then having a run of five losses. They play an attractive style of rugby, moving the ball wide and attacking from deep. Last season Newport came away with a 48 – 28 victory but The Ravens still managed to score four tries for a losing bonus point. They are a much improved team this season.
Newport are almost up to full strength but still have Brendan Lampitt and Owen Williams unavailable with long term injuries. A couple of other players are carrying bumps and bruises but the coaching team face some difficult choices in the pack and the three-quarters with squad members pushing for places.
Elliot Frewen misses out on section as he has been ill since returning from his exploits with the Wales 7's team in New Zealand but it is still a strong team that Newport have named:
1. John Lavendar 2. Will Evans 3. Garin Harris 4. Adam Brown 5. Dan Partridge 6. Reuben Tucker 7. Craig Attwell 8. Rhys Jenkins 9. Owen Davies 10. Matt O'Brien 11. Jon Morris 12. Tom Riley 13. Tom Pascoe 14. Wes Cunliffe 15. Geraint O'Driscoll
Subs: James Greenfield, Henry Palmer, Tom Piper, Dan Mock, Rhodri Jones, Ryan Bates, Chay Smith & Llwyarch Ap Myrddin.
